Beaches Sandbox welcomes guests of all ages and abilities. Our building includes step-free access, automatic door operators, elevator access, accessible washrooms and Braille signage.

Every person’s needs are different. Contact us before your visit if you would like to discuss accessibility, accommodations or what to expect from a particular program.

Planning your visit


Before you arrive

Contacting us in advance gives our team the best opportunity to understand what you need and explain what may be possible.

It is helpful to tell us:

  • The program or event you are attending.
  • The date and time of your visit.
  • Any mobility, sensory, communication or participation needs.
  • Whether you will attend with a support person or service animal.
  • The best way to contact you.

You only need to share information that is relevant to helping us support your visit.


Entering the building


Queen Street entrance

Please use the main entrance at 2181 Queen Street East. The entrance is step-free and equipped with automatic door operators.

Once inside:

  1. A wayfinding sign with Braille is located to the left.
  2. Turn right and continue down the hallway.
  3. The elevator is located at the end of the hall.
  4. Guest Services is located on the second floor.

Getting around the Sandbox


First floor

  • Step-free entrance from Queen Street.
  • Braille wayfinding sign near the entrance.
  • Elevator access to the second and third floors.

Second floor

  • Guest Services is located near the elevator.
  • The floor is step-free.
  • A universal accessible washroom is located toward the back of the lounge.
  • The washroom includes an automatic door operator, accessible hardware, grab bars and a change table.
  • Program rooms have sliding doors.
  • Braille signage is provided on room signs.

Third floor

  • Elevator access opens into the third-floor lounge area.
  • The floor is step-free.
  • A universal accessible washroom is available.
  • Braille signage is provided on room signs.
  • There is a slight curved transition at the entrance to some studios.

Different ways to take part

We want guests to participate in ways that feel comfortable, respectful and meaningful.

Depending on the program, our team may be able to discuss support related to:

  • Mobility and balance.
  • Seated or adapted participation.
  • Sensory sensitivities.
  • Communication preferences.
  • Learning or developmental needs.
  • Additional instructions or orientation.
  • Participation with a support person.

Available accommodations depend on the activity, room, instructor, group and type of support required. We will listen, explain what is possible and work with you to identify the best available option.

Knowing what to expect can help

The Sandbox can be lively, particularly during camps, family programs and community events. Noise, lighting, room setup, group size and activity levels vary by program.

Before your visit, our team can help you understand:

  • Typical group size.
  • Noise and activity level.
  • Room layout and seating.
  • Program pace.
  • Arrival and transition routines.
  • Whether written or repeated instructions may be available.

Support persons and service animals


Coming with support

Support persons and service animals are welcome in accordance with applicable accessibility requirements.

Please contact us before registering so we can discuss space, program-specific considerations and whether any fees or arrangements apply.

The centre is served by the 501 and 301 Queen streetcars and the 64 Main bus.

Parking

A Green P parking lot is located behind the building and is accessed from Lee Avenue. Street parking is also available nearby.
