Our Story
Welcome to Beaches Sandbox—a neighbourhood gathering place where creativity, movement, learning and connection come to play.
Located in the heart of Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood, we offer high-quality programs, workshops, camps and events for people of all ages and abilities from the Beaches, East York and beyond. One day might bring toddler music, pottery and Pilates. The next could include cooking, coding, dancing or a lively community event. Around here, there is always something happening.
As a registered charity, our purpose is simple: to create fun, welcoming experiences that help people feel healthier, happier and more connected. Because communities are not built by buildings. They are built by people spending meaningful time together.
Why "The Sandbox "?
Think about what happens in a sandbox. Imaginations run wild. Castles are built. Plans change. Strangers become playmates. Nobody worries too much about getting a little messy.
That spirit inspired Beaches Sandbox. Our name reflects both our connection to the sandy shores of the Beaches and our belief that play, creativity and curiosity should not end with childhood. We have created a space where children can explore, adults can rediscover their playful side, older adults can stay active and connected, and neighbours can become friends. Everyone is invited to find their own perfect spot in the sand.
Our Founders
Beaches residents Jason Schuy and Paulette O’Leary shared a vision: bring new energy to Queen Street East and create an accessible place where people could have fun, try new things and feel genuinely welcome.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for human connection became impossible to ignore. What began as an ambitious idea became a community-supported mission to create a place where people could come together again. With the support of neighbours, partners and an incredible team, that idea became Beaches Sandbox—a place built for the community, shaped by the community and always ready for a little more fun.

Land Acknowledgement
At Beaches Sandbox we acknowledge that the land we stand on today is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
This acknowledgment is only a first step in honouring the land on which we operate and is only meaningful when combined with accountable and informed action.
